Mingle: For a limited time only...
Who: Everyone!
Where: Anywhere on the hub
When: Days 134-139
Open/Closed: Open mingle goooo!
[Copper, lizards, and vines - oh my! With the recent installation of 9S and co.'s scanning equipment and the also recent, significantly wetter rainstorms there's quite a lot to check out on the island right now.Plus, the monitor robot still needs a name. You're not going to leave them nameless forever, are you?
Too bad Genette's put out word that everyone's about to be moving location soon. That means these are the last days the coven has for a little while to get everything in order, whether it's to take things to the next destination or to leave them behind. Get your bags packed and your huts cleaned, everyone!]

[Shirley wipes her palms on her skirt before going on with anything. It's not dignified as a Merines ought to be, but it seems necessary for the task at hand. Slippery and wriggly...she can do that maybe, if she's prepared.]
I think I can try now. On my count again?
no subject
[Geir tenses, waiting. he can do his part of this job, and as soon as Shirley says three, he'll flip the rock over immediately.]
no subject
[Shirley counts down again, and when Geir flips the rock she makes another dive for the lizard. There's some grappling, but she actually manages it this time! She holds the lizard out to Geir once she's sure she has a decent hold, still slightly bewildered at her own success.]
I did it...?
no subject
[Geir puts his eye down level with the lizard in Shirley's hand, his tone respectful. it was certainly a very respectable second try.]
Aww, look at the weird little thing. Don't be scared, little lizard!
no subject
[It's a genuine question, since Shirley genuinely doesn't know enough about Geir and how he may or may not be related to lizards, biggest lizard jokes aside. Maybe that man, Will...but she doesn't want to think about home right now.]
no subject
[he shifts so he can catch the lizard's eye directly; it's almost too small for this to work, and it certainly isn't as effective as it would normally be on a low-frequency world, but maybe he can...]
Calm down, little guy...
[Geir's tone goes lower and almost purring. staring into that huge red eye, the lizard does seem to calm, just the slightest bit. Geir makes a soft chuffing noise, not entirely pleased with the result, but not dissatisfied.]
...that's better. We won't hurt you.
no subject
[What Geir makes sense, and...oh wow, Shirley can feel the lizard squirming a little less now.]
It worked! But maybe we shouldn't hold him for too long.
[They were successful, but Geir also has a point in that this probably isn't the nicest thing to do to a lizard.]
no subject
[Geir isn't sure whether Shirley intended to catch them to use for some purpose or not.]
no subject
[Shirley may have gotten caught up in the task here, rather than the purpose.]
Is that it?
no subject
[is it? is it really it? this could be a philosophical question.]
no subject
[Feeling more than a little foolish, Shirley kneels down and sets the lizard free again.]
There you go.
no subject
[Geir doesn't think that Shirley was foolish at all. because of how they can share their memories, he has an up-close-and-personal look at the lizard from a couple of different angles now -- he can show them to Madoka, or anyone else on the hunt.]
I got a really close look at it this way. Much closer than from under a rock!
no subject
[Shirley is continually surprised by how optimistic and chill Geir is about everything, still too used to the pressures of home. It feels kind of nice, though.]
I wonder if there are any of them closer to where everyone lives.
no subject
Is there anything else you wanted to see?
no subject
[Partially because she hasn't been especially adventurous about it.]
no subject
[he wonders if he should offer to fly her back or not. he remembers that when he talked to her the first time, she was very unwilling to even take guidance back to the camp. what in the world is she afraid of when she talks to the coven members?]
There are some nice places between here and the base camp, at least.
no subject
[Sounds like some good spots to visit eventually, even if their time is limited right now. Shirley hasn't been much for putting herself out there, so she has a lot of free time.]
no subject
[Geir grins reminiscently -- the memory of Vern falling into the lagoon among all the frogs surfaces briefly and pleasantly in his mind. being afraid of frogs is extremely cute.]
And there are other things, too. Old abandoned places. Fields of flowers. That sort of thing. Maybe they're easier to see from the air...
no subject
[It's something Shirley hasn't considered much before. Technically she could fly back home if she used her teriques, but it's not really something she's done a lot in practice.]
no subject
[he considers before making the offer-- she refused him the last time he asked her if she wanted a lift, after all. but it's probably worth reiterating.]
I could still take you sometime, if you want! Let me know.
no subject
[It's a very logical offer to make, but Shirley still hesitates remembering last time. She'd declined then because she hadn't wanted to get involved with people, but the longer she's here the more it seems inevitable. She's already doing it with Geir, isn't she?
She's not sure if that's a bad thing or not, and in lieu of having an answer she equivocates.]
Maybe another time.
no subject
[Geir isn't offended. for whatever reason, Shirley's wary of him -- since it doesn't seem to be out of personal fear of him (or she wouldn't have been hanging out with him all this time!), he doesn't really have a reason to be offended about that, or ask why.]
Sure, whenever.
no subject
[Like much of the rest of their conversation, Shirley's more frustrated than Geir is about her actions. It would be nice to be more decisive, if only she could actually decide. She's thankful that Geir doesn't seem to mind as much as she'd thought. At least they'll be coming back to this hub once they're done with the next location. And speaking of which...]
I wonder what it's like where we're going soon. Were you there the first time the coven went somewhere to collect magic?
no subject
Oh, yeah! I got to the coven while we were there, actually. It was called Aimintas.
[he thinks about Shirley's past behavior -- pretty much all he knows about her was when she tried to flee into the ocean that time...]
You like the sea, right? You might've liked it. There was a strange ocean overhead, blocking off the sky. Really a different sort of world.
no subject
[It comes like an admission, Shirley's homesickness and aimlessness turning what could have been a petulant statement into a defeated one. At the same time, though...]
But maybe that would have been interesting to see.
