mapping party mapping party

Who: a bunch of less-than-upstanding nerd boys
Where: along this route
When: Day 8, or thereabouts
Open/Closed: closed to mapping party; pm [personal profile] rebells if your character would have icly asked to come!

[So you may have gotten a telepathic message a few days ago about an expedition to map the coastline . . . or maybe you were invited along by a friend. Whatever the reason, it's bright and early this morning, and it's time to set out!

Characters would have gotten a further telepathic message from Jay with a date and time to meet outside the shacks. They'll be heading east along the "shore," tracking the coast, and then heading directly back towards base camp . . . who knows what they'll find along the way?]

[ He's finding more utility for his power as time goes on, so the praise is encouraging. Minato kneels down by the stove, brushing off rust and dirt— the latter is only a smudge from where it'd hit the ground, the rest of it clean as he'd magicked just the stove itself. ]

Refurbishing and taking it would be best. I think everything stays the same... It doesn't work on living things, so I can't tell if it would harm them.

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't work on living things either. We couldn't combine frogs. [What. A hand comes forth to tap on the stovetop, nodding like he actually has a clue what he's doing.]

If Dave ever learns to draw we could add some more burners to it and other wings, too, to cook more and feed more people. Unless it's broken, then we might have a bigger problem.

[ What is this about frogs... Minato isn't a stranger to fusing sentient beings, but it's also an area he doesn't want to get into right now, so... poking at the stove it is, rapping his knuckles against it as if he could tell what material it's made of. ]

I think Dirk might be able to help if it's broken. If he can figure out how to destroy the brokenness.

[ His words, not Minato's. Last he saw Dirk practice, he might have just as much success as Dave learning how to draw. ]

[In a universe where frogs represent universes...but anyway, the stove sounds sturdy to him and he's pretty sure Minato knows as much as he does but they're fine pretending they're smart enough.]

That's if. [It's lightly and not entirely an argument, but he's aware of how Dirk feels about his powers.] Maybe this is something that can be fixed without powers, too, if we can figure out what works and what doesn't. And anyway Dirk couldn't touch it if we don't even know what the real brokenness is. These things usually run on gas don't they?

[He's just Thinking, don't mind him.]

[ Best let John think things through, because Minato doesn't know anything about stoves. Usually, he just turns a knob, and ta-da! fire. He misses modern conveniences like being able to call Mitsuru to call a handyman to fix things. ]

Gas, maybe. If it's out here, maybe wood is burned instead. We have people who can start fire without fuel, though.

[personal profile] windeity 2017-07-17 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Who do you know that can light fires without any kind of fuel? [He's immediately thinking of a power instead of anything else, but it's worth noting.]

Akira, and Emil.

[ Though technically, Akira's fuel is bad jokes and Emil is... Emil. ]
windeity: (GAZE ♫ thoughtful)

[personal profile] windeity 2017-07-17 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
I think I met Akira, but I haven't met Emil. But that is sort of a useful magic to have, especially if we're all traveling around doing stuff. Maybe that means someone else has ice magic and we just don't know it yet.

Probably... But why would we need ice?
windeity: (THINKING ♫ thoughts)

[personal profile] windeity 2017-07-18 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ice melts. We could use it for water supply if we ever get stuck in a place without clean water? Or if one of the planets is a desert or something. It just makes sense.
p_mortem: (hell's fire)

[personal profile] p_mortem 2017-07-18 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ If it's for water supply, water itself would be good enough... but John's right; ice is more versatile in that it can cool people down, keep food from going bad, make transportation easier by sliding things across the ice, those sorts of things. ]

A desert sounds like a pain to walk though... [ Sand. Everywhere. ] We're supposed to be finding magic or something out there?
windeity: (CALM ♫ reconsideration)

[personal profile] windeity 2017-07-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sometimes John's ideas don't fully form before they're out of his mouth, honestly.]

It's not that bad. [Don't ask why he's walked through deserts, Minato.] And I think so. I have read Genette's letter a few times and I'm still not too sure what it is we're really doing when we start traveling. That sounds right, but that also sounds way too easy.
p_mortem: (dreamless dorm)

[personal profile] p_mortem 2017-07-19 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He wants to ask why deserts... But he's inclined to agree to that about Genette's letter; he'd read it over multiple times, but for all the words written there, he understands almost nothing. ]

I guess, when we start traveling, we'll be told what to do. If they need so many people, it's probably something that takes time.

[ But not difficult, he hopes, because otherwise the island would be crawling with experienced warriors, not teenagers like he sees all around him. ]
windeity: (NEUTRAL ♫ hesitate)

[personal profile] windeity 2017-07-20 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess so. Time and different abilities, since none of us have exactly the same one either. And I guess it's fine if we have some guidance but at the same time if it's something we can't do you have to wonder what happens next.

[Shrug.] Probably not worth worrying about now. Lenka and I were talking about building an enclosure or something to make meals back at the original hut site on the beach to keep food away from the boars and stuff. We can shove the stove in there or something.
p_mortem: (till i see sunlight again)

[personal profile] p_mortem 2017-07-23 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Like a proper camp. Do we have anything strong enough to keep out boars? Metal or stone... or thicker wood than the trees in the forest.
windeity: (CONTENT ♫ relaxin' all cool)

[personal profile] windeity 2017-07-24 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing so far, but we could knock out or merge some of the empty huts I think is what we were thinking. If that doesn't work, I'll get Dave to draw something. It's hard to mess up drawing a rock.
p_mortem: (no man's land)

[personal profile] p_mortem 2017-07-27 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ To be fair, rocks are really hard to draw, but Dave's power seems to be helped along by envisioning what he wants, so that a rock turns into a rock and not a jagged mess of ??? ]

Merging... is what you do, right? Is it as easy as putting two huts together to make one big one?
windeity: (NEUTRAL ♫ he tried)

[personal profile] windeity 2017-07-28 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[John rags on Dave's art skills a lot but his are really not much better. But at Minato's question he considers for a moment.]

I think so? I haven't tried it yet but since everything else seems to merge together I do not see why not. It'd depend how they formed together but at least it'd be more space.
