[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

Which is when Chiaki reaches out to lightly - gently! - press his fingers against Akira's signet, a little humming glow of magic to let him know that something was activated before Chiaki pulls away!

Given that Chiaki's power is to naturally increase the power of magic within others - however the player decides! - who knows. Maybe sparks really will fly.]

[ his eyes flutter open and nothing has physically changed about him. he isn't on fire, for all he knows his hair is in tact, and he hasn't turned into a small crab. so.... ]

Hmm, from what I understand it should be able to increase your own power....

[ akira muses aloud, more rhetorical than anything. all right, all right, fine. he tosses chiaki a lazy grin. ]

But the thing is that Chiaki doesn't really plan ahead - instead he just perks up.]

This is a set up for a joke, isn't it? Hmm! I don't know!

[ brilliant deduction, good sir. ]

[ .... akira. please just. at that, his fingers burst into tiny embers. and yes, it's actually more poignant than usual. the flames even had tiny flecks of blue to them. ]

Amazing...!! [Chiaki laughs in surprise, even as he jumps... back a little bit...] Was the joke a distraction?! How clever!

[ oh, like a magician. the art of distraction. ]

Not exactly. That's what causes it.

[ he waves his hands quickly, letting the fire blow out gradually. ]

It doesn't hurt.

Ahaha, I would be more concerned if it did. That's... a very specific power?!

[but he's still delighted by it, grinning]

[Chiaki laughs at that, then reaching to place his hands on Akira's shoulders.]

[SO ENTHUSIASTIC - though he does temper it a bit after, with a sheepish grin.]

Or at least... I aspire to be? It's not the same thing to simply announce yourself a hero without the actions behind it, right? I hope to one day be a man that naturally strikes people as a hero!

Chiaki actually manages to perk up at that, retracting his own hands even as they're clenched into excited fists.]
