[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[Waver eyes the wine glass, wondering if it is a bit too early for that, but then he remembers who he has to deal with back home. Rider would've brought wine out for everyone.]

So for a few hours. [It feels a little judgmental, honestly.]

And how does everyone stack up to your past experiences?

[witchofwishes]

Now now... it's not judging. Everyone starts somewhere. And well...

[Her eyes rake over the children on the beach. Laughing, casting spells, running around and just learning. She's known many people all at different levels and skills. She's known the most powerful magician to ever walk the earth. She's spoken with Gods and sorcerers and an array of castors. But this is different. Quite different.]

It's like watching a garden. There are lots of buds just poking their heads out of the dirt. You don't know what they'll be. You don't know how colorful or big they'll be. But you know they're growing and one day they'll be beautiful.

I see flowers on the beach and they're doing splendidly.

[teratias]

[Waver wasn't sure about not judging. There was some of it in there, just positive judging rather than negative. And steeped in a gardening metaphor, suggesting that someone really was just embracing the green thumb power.]

I think I should say thank you for the compliment?

[Waver knew there was a compliment in there at least.]

Mmm? You think. [She gives Waver a teasing smile as she sits back in her chair, crossing one leg over the other.] For what exactly?

Words don't require thank yours. If more people spoke truthfully people wouldn't feel compelled to feel grateful. Honest words require no gratification.

Regardless if you say it or not you are most welcome. I look forward to seeing what kind of magician you become, or to continue my metaphor... what kind of flower you bloom into. So train hard~

[Because I never got those at Clock Tower? That's Waver's first thought, but nothing he'd ever dare voice out loud. That matter is a big thing to unpack, and he isn't remotely ready to try to do so at the moment.]

You're having a lot of fun with the greenery metaphor, huh?

[Waver actually does smile. A little, thin one, but it is there.]

[Yuuko can't help but offer a soft laugh at that.]

Well. If the great forces that are currently beyond our comprehension didn't want me to do it they shouldn't have changed my title to Green Witch. It's their own fault.

[Or maybe she'll spice up that title. Like, instead of the common Witch of Wishes she went by the Space Time Witch. So maybe she'll call herself the Breath of Life Witch. See. That's pretty fancy~

Well, regardless. She's definitely going to start a garden.]

I think they'd argue back that you didn't have to lean into it so hard.

[Or at least that would be his approach. Regardless, it clearly wouldn't stop Yuuko from having fun with the whole thing.]

Mmm~ Well then I'd say they can't tell me what to do. Besides~ it's more fun this way.

But let me change the course of this conversation just slightly. [She sits up a little straighter in her chair and flips to the back of her book where she has piece of paper with what appears to be a hastily written list on it.]

What's your favorite flower or plant. Or... a vegetable or fruit you like to eat?

[teratias]

Huh.

[He has to stop and think. Really stop and think. Waver had rarely paid attention to flowers and plants over the years. Magecraft had consumed his life in that particular way, and it was a strange thing to finally realize.

At least the second question he can answer a bit easier.]

Blackberries. They're hard to get in the city, but good when there's one of those little pop up markets that bring them in from the countryside.

Blackberries...

[She runs her finger down the small list, not seeing that fruit there. But it will be when she gets back to her beach house.]

Blackberries have lots of lore attached to them. As well as magical properties. You can do all sorts of things with their vines and leaves. And~ they make an excellent wine. If I can find the seeds here I will grow them. Everyone should have something that they like in this strange new place. Something that reminds them of home, don't you think~?

I didn't know about the lore, actually. [Waver's thought is a bit more simple than that.]

I mostly just remember blackberries and cream being one of the better snacks I can make for myself. [Living in dorms is hard, after all.]

[They may be here for a while. A long while. It'll be vital to remember where you came from and what home was like. It can be easier than you think to let such seemingly trivial things slip through your fingers.]
