[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[Now that he's finally on the ground, Jake approaches, though he's still a little cautious.]

Mik...leo...? Is that you?

[The voice sounds familiar but the boy he met earlier was, well, not a dragon.]

Yes! Sorry--Jake, right? Argh, I didn't mean to give you a scare...

[sounds apologetic and frustrated all at once; he's wobbly like a baby deer when he gets back to his feet]

It's quite all right, as long as you aren't hurt.

[He isn't sure if he can really help Mikleo stand but he does put a hand on him.]

I take it this is your magic?

[oneandmikleonly]

[bridles his wings a little at the touch, surprised, but doesn't protest it]

Yeah. I honestly don't like it very much, but it seems it's what I have to work with. I, er, hope yours is turning out better.

Mine isn't so bad. A little unpredictable if I'm not careful but otherwise fine. Still, becoming a dragon, that must be rough! It's a whole different body, right?

[He thinks it's cool but Mikleo doesn't seem to, poor dude.]

Yeah. The associations aren't that great for me either...though getting trying it out over with has helped a bit. It doesn't affect how I think.

[shuffles his front claws in the sand, carefully]

...what is yours, anyway? Can I help with it...?

[potentite]

[Bad associations with a dragon, huh. Well, he won't press it.]

Oh! Um, mine is... increasing the probability of an outcome. I have a task but... I'm not sure if a dragon has pockets to help with the task...

Hmmm.

[Jake's mission is a welcome distraction from his own problems. he carefully stares at Jake, then cranes his head back to look at himself, then...]

Maybe if I fold my wings, the pouches they make would count as pockets? That's a fascinating ability.

[That's not a bad idea, actually.]

It is pretty neat, I think! I just hope I do it justice. But I think that might work? If you don't mind trying!

[spreads his wings out carefully in answer, vane by vane, and then tucks then one over the other on his back]

No that should be dandy. Let's see... [He tries it just like before. To increase the chance of something weird somehow finding its way into the 'pocket' he made in his wings—]

ok!!

[makes a whuffling little noise of surprise as it takes effect, digging his claws into the sand; feeling new and unexpected weight where there wasn't any before

he unfolds the wing in question carefully; something small and shining falls to the sand in front of both their eyes]

oh, my.

[potentite]

[Jake bends down to pick it up, curious.] Oh, it's pretty. But it worked!

I guess your power's got some flex for interpretation. It'll be interesting to see how powerfully you can influence this sort of thing with more practice!

[sounds GENUINELY ENTHUSED? Jake's experiment working has cheered him up a bit]

[Oh that flusters him.] Well, gosh, I'll certainly do my best. And um, if you need any assistance, I'll do my best.

Thanks, Jake. I'll probably take you up on that once I've figured out how everything works, haha . . influencing something to happen probably doesnt' do as much good if I'm still tripping over myself.
