[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

Oh! Can you make things appear? [In... pockets? Huh.] I'm not sure either. I've never seen anything like it.

Umm, not quite? I can, um... increase the probability of something happening. So, um, my task was to increase the probability of an odd item appearing in someone's pocket. And that sure is odd! I'm not sure how you use it.

Oh, wow. That's a really interesting power! [It sounds pretty cool, even though Ryoji's still examining the device. On a whim, he flicks it and it spins around.] It spins!

[His eyes widen a little.] Oh! Well what do you know, it does. It spins pretty fast, too! That's neat.

It is! I'm still not sure what it's for, though... [But it is pretty fun to just spin it.]

I think as long as a toy is fun, that's good enough, right?

True! [Ryoji smiles, offering it out to him.] Do you want it? Since, technically you made it show up...

Oh no no! Consider it a gift? Since it's something that isn't actually too odd.

Alright. Thank you! [He certainly thinks it's odd, but it's kind of fun!]

No problem! Oh, um, I'm Jake by the by. Since we're going to all be living together...

I'm Ryoji! It's nice to meet you, Jake. Where are you from?

Um, an island in the Pacific Ocean! [He. Thinks that's the right answer??] On Earth, I guess.

Oh! I'm from Japan. Which... is also an island in the Pacific? [it's just a big island. And hopefully he doesn't have to know anything more about geography for this because he did not spend a lot of time at school.]

Oh, yes, I know of it! I don't think you'd know of my island but that is just fine. It isn't as interesting as Japan!
