[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[Well, Jake does like friendly people. People who approach him first make him feel a little more relaxed.]

Oh, um, yes. Since they're being kind enough to offer up training exercises, I thought it prudent to toss my hat into the ring.

[ofthedemiurgescomposition]

[Kind enough. The words make Joshua scoff. Kind is the last thing he could call anyone in this situation, no matter what veneer they put on.]

"Yes. It also gives me a good chance to use my abilities. Without, well... accidentally traumatizing a person." [Not that he'd mind but he really doesn't want to have to deal with the aftermath of that.]

[potentite]

[That sounds a little serious.] Traumatizing someone? Goodness, that must be troubling. What sort of powers are they?

[ofthedemiurgescomposition]

"Perception manipulation. I can control the very way you perceive reality. So naturally... I can do some rather, incomprehensible things. Well, for you anyways." [Welp, time to check one person off the test list. "Mind if I test it out on you, just so you can get a sense of it?"

[potentite]

[It surprises him a little but he nods.] I don't mind at all. It's what we're here to do after all, isn't it?

[He smiles. Victim number one you have now been chosen.] "Alright. Now, I want you to think of a number. Any number."

[potentite]

Oh, this sounds like a magic trick. [It amuses him a little but he smiles and thinks of the number 30.] Okay, I'm thinking of one.

[ofthedemiurgescomposition]

"It only sounds like one because I'm trying to do something less dangerous to you. There are some pretty terrible things I can do to you without holding back, you know." [And now he is half-inclined to do something like that to Jake. Just to see how he reacts. It will be somewhat entertaining. Though, he's not a sadistic person, so he won't go too far over the line. Maybe. But he might as well ask first.] "Unless, you want me to go that far."

[potentite]

[Something terrible, huh. It kind of feels challenging but maybe he shouldn't jump at it.]

Ahh, well, um, you can try something simple first and if you want to try something harder, you can?

[ofthedemiurgescomposition]

"Hmm... I can work with that. Alright, so that number you were thinking of earlier. Tell me it."

[potentite]

It's thirty!

[ofthedemiurgescomposition]

"Alright." [He concentrates on the idea, repeating it in his own head. "every number is now 30." He then feels himself "direct" it at Jake, so to speak, but really he's just making himself try and impose it on his target. That idea being implanted into Jake's perception of reality. When he's done it, he then holds up his hand, motioning with three fingers.] "How many fingers am I holding up?"

[potentite]

[Jake blinks a few times, looking confused. Then he rubs his eyes and looks again, mouth moving silently as he counts.]

Th— Thirty?

[ofthedemiurgescomposition]

"Alright."

[He turns away from Jake, hand still out and begins to walk, stopping to look back with another command.]

"Count up for me."

[potentite]

[He isn't sure if he should follow or not but he does take a few steps forward just in case.] Oh, um, one, two, three, four, five...

[ofthedemiurgescomposition]

"...Hm."

[Okay, conceptual aspects, not maintainable. Maybe he'd try something a little different.]

"Think of a person."

[potentite]

[The first person that pops into his head is Dirk. It makes him flush but he nods.]
