[OPENING] magical training log
Who: Brie, whichever newbies want to show up.
Where: The beach.

Where: The beach.
When: Day 4
Open/Closed: OTA
[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.
As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.
She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.
But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[Yang walked along the huts, kicking up sand occasionally and watching as the others bustled about. She looked like she was just killing time, but she was actually scoping out the huts and who went in and out of which ones. After a few laps, she perches on a nearby rock and huffs.]
Ugh. This is going to take forever to narrow down. Maybe I should just pick one at random.
[She notices someone passing by, someone she hadn't seen yet.]
Hey! Which of those huts did you pick?
B.Talk the Talk
[Yang was 90% confident she had narrowed down the huts. She wondered why they were so expendable that THIS was her test. At least she was trying to make sure there was no one inside and knocked politely on the door.]
Hello~ Anyone home?
[If no one answered or thought they could just ignore her they were wrong.]
C. Here Comes the Boom
[Yang is now 95% sure that the hut she's standing in front of is empty, with no one occupying it now or ever. And so it's time to test what this ability of hers can really do. She cracked the knuckles of her left hand and smirked.]
All right. Who wants to see some fireworks?
C
[HE ANSWERS, WITHOUT EVEN BOTHERING TO SEE WHO ASKED THE QUESTION.
Still, he's turning around and is pretty hype?! He loves fireworks!!]

Well then keep back, cause I am still figuring this out.
[She'd spent the whole day making sure the hut she was about to blow up was clear--it would suck to still hurt someone from the explosion just because they were standing too close.
She felt better having an audience too. What could she say? She liked to give a good show and her personality was all about showing off.]
Uh...you don't live in that hut by the way, do you?
no subject
[Easily - though he does take a moment to also be momentarily concerned.]
The area is clear, right? Do you need me to take a lap and make sure that everyone is away from the hut?
no subject
[She was only mostly risky--she didn't want to actually hurt anyone.]
I have to wonder though...why are they wanting me to blow up huts?
no subject
[And he sounds praising about it?! Chiaki likes to just compliment people... though the question does make him tilt his head.]
Is it not done to test your strength? Could it be more than that?
no subject
[She considers that.]
Possibly. I haven't tried a lot of variety with the explosions...but I would guess I could vary the size of the blast. Too small and I'm only going to blow holes in the side...too big of an explosion and I could hurt people nearby.
no subject
[He's just like a really eager dog...]

[She winked. Oh she'd be sure to let him know. But now was the time to try out this ability of hers. Yang turned her attention back to the hut, bringing her hands up like she was about to box with it. Apparently doing this helped her channel her powers a little better -- though she didn't realize yet that this wasn't necessary.
Above her fist a yellow orb appeared, flickering before expanding to two inches in diameter. That...seemed like a pretty decent size and hopefully would destroy the hut without actually causing TOO much damage.
Yang threw her fist forward, punching the air and also sending the ball of light flying. It hit the hut and a split second later BOOM! The hut had a large hole in it--though the blast hadn't been enough to actually send much shrapnel. The roof had collapsed through, even if the majority of it was still standing. Also, despite it being an explosion there was no heat or fire to the blast--her explosions were more concussive force than anything.]
Huh. Guess I need to make it bigger.
no subject
Though Chiaki watches, makes an amazed "oohhhhh!!" sound as the roof collapses, and even is in the middle of applauding as she's surveying the damage - ]
Oohh, such force! You're powerful...!!
[HE'S VERY EXCITED FOR HER - though at the musing, he hums faintly before bounding over and tilting his head.]
Perhaps I can help with that....! Would you mind if I...?
[and he raises his hand - his fingertips glowing faintly with the activation of his magic. he's got this!! let him support!]
no subject
Thanks.
[The smile fades a bit as she looks a little curiously at his finger...which is glowing. She has no idea what he can do with that so might as well ask.]
How do you plan to help?
B
Shouldn't you be training instead of fraternizing?
[ Says the guy who's enjoying his flask right now. ]
no subject
What? You want me to blow up huts without checking to see if there are people inside them. That seems pretty irresponsible.
[Especially between her dad and Qrow, both men telling her to be more mature or whatever. Beat, she rests a hand on her hip.]
Are you following me? How long have you been there?
no subject
[ Little does Yang know that he means this in the most literal sense. Truth is, he had been testing out his own new power, which gives him the ability to disappear and reappear somewhere else. ]
So that's what you're doing, then? Blowing up houses?
[ Huh... ]
no subject
[Why she couldn't blow up something else she wasn't sure. Did she actually get anything for completing the task? She hadn't thought to ask.]
Not all of the huts are being used...so I guess they can spare a few being knocked down.
no subject
By the way, you're not rooming with anybody, are you?
[ No, he's not asking if they can be roomies, he's just doing the overprotective uncle thing. You know. Because Yang isn't an adult!! ]
no subject
[She pauses. Was he--no, no way.]
Really? I just said I'm going to blow up some huts and your concern is whether I'm rooming with someone or not? That's what you want to talk about right now?
[She wasn't of course. She'd just gotten here and hardly knew anyone. It wasn't like Beacon where they were assigned teams to room with. But that wasn't the point and, actually, considering dorms were co-ed in Beacon depending on the team his concern seemed even stranger. Looks like her uncle has rustled some feathers there.]
no subject
What, is it a bad time or something? Should I wait until you blow more things up?
no subject
[She hadn't even thought about it, seeing as all of these people were complete strangers to her and even with hut destruction there were still plenty of places to sleep.]

no subject
I'm not an idiot. I'm not going to just start sharing space with people I don't even know.

no subject
Well...it looks like no one's home and there isn't a name on the door. I'm going to chalk this one up as empty.
