[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[Waver grumbles. That went a hell of a long way to soothe his ego. He shouldn't be that easy, should he?]

...Fine, I'll take it. But we should definitely figure out a maximum weight load for you, just in case something ever happens.

[oneandmikleonly]

Yeah. If I'm going to use this ability, I'm going to use it to help people. Thaaat's probably going to mean a lot of heavy lifting in the end.

[teratias]

That's a useless offer if you overload yourself and can't fly.

[oneandmikleonly]

Then you get to scold me as I lie squashed on the sand, I suppose. You wouldn't be the only one. Ah, not that I want to do that on purpose, though.

[teratias]

So...like I just found you then?

[Waver shakes his head.]

Because I don't want to have to try and dig you out or anything down the road.

[oneandmikleonly]

[outright laughing, still cheerful, taking them into a slow level spiral once he's confident he can do that smoothly]

I'll try to avoid it! I wouldn't want to inconvenience a friend unnecessarily.

[teratias]

[Wait. Friend?!

They had interacted maybe twice. How did he jump to friends that fast? Is...is that normal? Waver tries not to let any of that filter out.]

Uh. Thanks?

[Smooth, Waver.]

Um, you're welcome.

[he hadn't even thought about it, honestly]

[teratias]

[Waver doesn't quite understand how to friendship.]

You know, since people're trying to map this island, getting on you and getting an aerial view might help.

[oneandmikleonly]

I'd thought of that. Honestly, the mountain peak might be central enough to allow all of that in one trip, too -- get all the basics down while up there, then do a flyover and add any missing details.

[teratias]

That would probably work well. I dunno who it was organizing, but I guess talk to them when you get back.

[oneandmikleonly]

I'll ask around! Thanks.

Ready to fly in? I can probably drop us near the beach houses, if that's where you want to go.

[teratias]

Yeah, I think I'm ready to head down. You uh, got an angle in mind here?

[oneandmikleonly]

I'll take us in slow and circling. You're gonna get a bit jolted, but I'm pretty sure I see how not to plow us into the sand.

[he's grinning a dragon's grin; giddy with exhilaration, as he dips his wings]

[teratias]

[The grin's pretty....silly, actually, seeing it on a dragon. But Waver does start to tighten his grip, and okay, he might be debating closing his eyes.]

You better not plow us into the sand! I'll be cleaning it off of myself for weeks!

[oneandmikleonly]

You think I want to be cleaning more of it off myself? Don't worry so much!

[he does seem to be going in more carefully after that, though. the brightly-painted little buildings draw closer, and so does the ground . . .]

[teratias]

I'm not worrying--!!!

[Waver restrains the desire to scream, just barely, his eyes locked on the ground even though he knows better.]

[oneandmikleonly]

[Mikleo can hear Waver's nerves and does his absolute best to land gently; it is still a bit of a jarring thump, though the sand absorbs the brunt of the shock, but neither of them is suddenly buried in sand. (well, Mikleo's feet are, but that's neither here nor there)]

Ha! It worked!

[okay, that's less reassuring...but it did work! hooray!]

[teratias]

...It did!

[Waver doesn't quite flop over off of Mikleo, but he does sort of...slide down, at a weird angle, landing in the sand. That was a first, and more than slightly unnerving, if not incredibly awesome as well.]

That was a pretty good first landing!

[oneandmikleonly]

Whew! Hey...

[headbutts Waver's shoulder gently once he's safely all the way to the ground]

Thanks for flying with me.

[teratias]

[Waver pauses, then leans over so he can gingerly pat Mikleo's snoot.]
