[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

Unfortunately, Tamaki is interested in bothering him.

"Cure someone who ate the crab."

Most people seem pretty wary of it at this point, and haven't been going near it, but he's hoping at least one person was hungry enough (or sick of boar) enough to try it again.

"It didn't make me sick but I guess other people had food poisoning."

[teratias]

"Lucky you that you didn't," Waver said. He was now on an all-boar diet after the near fire and whatnot. A small frown etched itself onto Waver's face.

"That's related to your magic?"

[puddingemote]

"Yeah. I can heal illnesses."

He's met a few people who can heal injuries (a friend from home included), but he's the only one he knows so far who can do this sort of thing. It's certainly useful for the crab food poisoning.

[teratias]

"Really?" Waver blinked in surprise. That was incredibly useful. Practical! And wait, were there limits? "Anything at all? Or are you limited in that uh, if someone has a cut on their foot or something, you can't do anything?"

[puddingemote]

"Only illnesses." He gives it some thought. He hasn't tested the full limits of the ability yet, though he does know it can't cure anything chronic. "If the cut got infected, I guess I could cure that."

[teratias]

"That's really specific wording." Waver deflated a little, but mostly because that kind of wording seemed like it might bite everyone in the ass one day.

"But uh, still pretty great."

[puddingemote]

"Thanks." Tamaki shrugs. "Is it weird, though? Both my friends got pretty specific powers..."

He thinks over what they told him their magic did. Both powers were useful, but neither was a perfect cure-all.

[teratias]

"How specific?" he asked, tilting his head.

"I've got someone who can only heal something once a day."

[puddingemote]

"Once a day...?" That seems really limiting. Good things there were other healers around.

"Rikkun can sing and heal people. And Mikki can only tell if something is poisonous. He can't cure poison."

[teratias]

"...He can determine the poisonous nature but not do anything about it? That's," Waver wrinkled his nose in distaste.

"That's even worse than healing once a day."

[puddingemote]

"It's not!" Tamaki snaps, ready to leap to the defense of his friend's honor. "He can tell you if something is poisonous. And then you don't eat it, so no one has to heal you."

This seems like a perfectly logical power to Tamaki.

[teratias]

Wait. That was a good point.

"Oh, right. For survival situations that is useful. Sorry."

Waver has the decency to look slightly repentant. For survival it is a good power, but jeez, in a fight? What's that going to do?

[puddingemote]

Hopefully the idols won't be getting into too many fights. But then, one never knows...

Tamaki would argue that Mitsuki has a pretty strong kick, but that's beside the point.

"...It's okay." He's still frowning a little, but he'll let it go, opting to change the subject.

"What about your smoke power?"

[teratias]

"What about it?" Waver tilted his head. "Functionally how does it work, or what's it good for?"

[puddingemote]

He nods in response. "Both."

[teratias]

"Well uh, here. I'll show you first."

Waver held both of his hands up, an equal length apart, and muttered something. What came next was a little swirl of smoke, gently churning in the space between. With a wiggle of his fingers, it took on a number of successive shapes: rectangle, square, sphere, cube, pyramid. Then the shapes became detailed: the pyramid looked like it was made of blocks. The sphere was textured like a basketball. And then Waver removed one palm and then let the other point upward, resulting in controlled puffs.

"Smoke signals, for one. Defensive cover too. It's...mostly defensive, I guess."
