[OPENING] magical training log

Who: Brie, whichever newbies want to show up.
Where: The beach.
When: Day 4
Open/Closed: OTA

[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[ Magic is easy, and that is exactly what is wrong with it. Carla's people disdained its ease, it was a toxin that slipped so silken into the crevices of humanity and ate them from the inside. Yuuko's indolence and giddy voyeurism over the proceedings strikes home with Carla. Reminds of her mad Sol-folk with cruel smiles and tainted hearts. ]

I don't need your help.

[ Lieutenant Witchfinder Carla Morir glowers at Yuuko with dark eyes, lip curling with disgust. ]
witchofwishes: (absolutely pathetic)

[What's all this now? A bitting remark in her direction so suddenly? Well... With the children she's all smiles because they're just children. Even when they say rude things, and many of them do, there's no need to take offense. And this one here before her? Oh, yes, she is still very much a child. Teens, twenties, thirties... the numbers don't matter. If you can't behave yourself appropriately you're nothing but a kid.]

I don't believe I was offering it. A few days ago, yes. Today? No.

[She sits up a bit straighter in her chair so she can get a better look at this young woman.]

Which is a shame because it would seem you're in need of it.

[ Carla has been snapping at everyone all day since Brie gave her the assignment. She is not pleased to realize what her 'power' is, is not pleased at all by what it suggests to her. One life, once a week. Bringing back the dead is disgusting to her, and she loathes the thought of anyone finding out about it. ]

We're not all of us drunken fools.

[ And she doesn't mean the wine: she means the magic. ]
witchofwishes: (im doing better than you)

[personal profile] witchofwishes 2017-07-23 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, it's not the first time she's been called a drunken fool. But absolutely because of the wine and not because of magic.]

It's only my first glass... [Which is true. Still, she snaps her book closed so all of her attention is on this snappy young woman.] Have we met before? [Surely not. This girl doesn't seem familiar.] Or I am just the target of your sour attitude? It's rather unsightly, I'll have you know. You may want to consider taking out your irritations in a much less offensive way. [She lifts her glass and offers a smile.] Have a drink, for starters.

[ Carla smiles pridefully at her, to be called sour or unsightly causes her no embarrassment or shame. Of course some aboveworld witch thinks she is unsightly, refusing to play by sunwalker games of glamour and falsehood-- That's what Hel-folk think of it anyway. ]

What do you think sharing a drink with me will accomplish? It will invoke no covenant.

[ She means she won't be wooed that easily. ]
witchofwishes: (die die die)

Sharing a glass with someone shows good will. It's also an opening for conversation and discussion. When you invite someone into your home you offer them a drink. It eases tensions and sets a certain mood.

Ignoring the fact that alcohol normally puts people in better spirits... I'd argue that you could just use one in general and take it as a chance to lighten up.

Unfortunately I only have one glass so... [She takes a long sip from said glass to emphasize the point.] You can be on your way. But do be nicer to the children. I'm uncertain what has invoked your ire but taking it out on other parties is no way to start your new life here on this island. Thus you be labeled as something rather unpleasant.

[personal profile] andsobelow 2017-07-31 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Sharing a glass is a fine way to spread a poison.

[ Hel-folk were a suspicious, untrusting lot.... ]

And there are more important things in the world than how nice anyone is.

[ Strength. Autonomy. Control. All of which is currently compromised, and so Carla snaps and growls. ]
witchofwishes: (fear me)

[personal profile] witchofwishes 2017-08-01 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Only if the wine itself is poisoned.

[These attempts at bitting one liners are nothing that Yuuko has patience for. You don't get to march up to her and be rude. That's not how this works.]

I hate to make assumptions but you speak very much like a human. And my tolerance for humans, especially ones that don't think before they speak, only goes so far. You came up to me. So do you actually have a purpose or are you wasting time? Time is precious, you know, and I don't appreciate it being squandered.

[ All of this vindicates Carla horribly. As if she hadn't provoked exactly the reaction she's received, but she doesn't care. She's not self-aware enough to think that she asked for this haughty witchy behavior. ]

Show an untoward move, witch, and I will make you the top of my list of practice kills before I find Qri.

[ That is what Carla wanted. To be cruel, to be unkind, to be herself: to turn down magic and witchcraft and hunt down those who toy with its dangerous threads. She gives a brilliant, but icy smile that shows more than anything what a dark-hearted thing she is. ]

Enjoy your wine, filth.

[ Feeling better about herself and the whole situation, she does finally fuck off. ]
