[OPENING] magical training log

Who: Brie, whichever newbies want to show up.
Where: The beach.
When: Day 4
Open/Closed: OTA

[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

Correct! It's part of my training for my healing magic. Once I hurt you, I can heal you. Simple.
oneandmikleonly: (like wishing for rain.)

This is some really hands-on training we've got going here. But, sure, all in a good cause.

Great. [She balls up a hand into a fist.] Now, is there any place you don't prefer I hit you? I'll avoid any sensitive areas that you don't want damaged if you tell me so now.
oneandmikleonly: (heart will lead me there soon.)

[eh, well. mulls it over for just a moment, thinking back over past fights, and then shrugs]

Just not in the face or the gut and we'll be fine.

Gotcha.

[And without warning she instead aims for his right arm just below the shoulder! It's not a hard hit, but absolutely not soft either. She can't throw a punch if she plans to heal him.]
oneandmikleonly: (to the corner of the globe.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2017-07-23 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[he doesn't flinch from the blow, though he does rock back with the force of it some, wincing a little visibly; he can take a punch fine, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.]

--oof. Okay--good hit.

Oops. Sorry if I went too hard on you. [she only doesn't feel bad about hurting people if they're assholes.] Ok this next part involves water. You don't hate water, right?
oneandmikleonly: (in the end it wasn't me.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2017-07-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[he grins, perhaps unexpectedly for someone who got socked in the arm]

I like ater just fine. My magic has to do with it, usually.

I don't have magic, but my own skills usually involve water. Maybe that's why I got this power. [She pulls out a bottle of water from her bag and pours some of it on her hands.] Can you pull up your sleeve? The water needs to make direct contact with the injured area.
oneandmikleonly: (navigate this crowd.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2017-07-30 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I had been wondering if the powers we got had relation to what skills or abilities we had before coming here. So far a lot of what I've heard from people seems to bear that theory out.

[it takes some tugging (tight coat, not weak arms) but he rolls up the long sleeve for her obligingly, a red mark visible where she hit him]

[She puts a wet hand over his arm where the mark is, and begins to channel her magic. The water around his mark will begin to cool, forming around the mark and repair the damage.]

I think that's accurate. We don't have any access to our usual powers, and I wonder if the magic is trying to draw upon what we lost. Maybe it isn't the most full-proof theory, but I don't believe in magic coming out of absolutely nowhere.

[Everything is a science to her, even magic.]
oneandmikleonly: (go with the tide.)

[he lets out a soft whistle, interested and watching the healing; it's very different from his own spells back home]

I think Jay may intend to poll those of us who came here, sooner or later, to see if that holds true across the board. I don't think the two could be totally unrelated, either, but perhaps the connections are more obscure in some cases -- it would make most sense for me to use water as well, for example, or for Edna to still have some power over earth. But in our cases things seem to have gone on a tangent.

I don't know who those people are, but they seem smart. Maybe that poll could be used in some sort of database? To track who has which abilities, and what their uses would be.
oneandmikleonly: (heart will lead me there soon.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2017-08-07 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that was the idea. It would make it easier to coordinate for, um, whatever else the person who's dragged us here needs us to do before we can return home.
