[OPENING] magical training log

Who: Brie, whichever newbies want to show up.
Where: The beach.
When: Day 4
Open/Closed: OTA

[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

Izuku. I'm Giorno.

And by not being a healer back home ... do you mean you've never developed powers before? Or were you something else entirely?

It's nice to meet you, Giorno-san.

Uh- Haha, I mean? [ Said fast but intelligible: ] Funny story I'm like a suuuper late bloomer back home as far as quirks go so I guess you could say that It's kinda like I never developed one since you know you're four when you get it but I was like 14, haha crazy right? B-but it makes sense still just given the nature of it.

Erm- But- Kinda more the other thing. My quirk gives me a lot of strength that I can't totally handle; it's got nothing to do with healing. I don't know why my magic would suit me up with something I barely know anything about.

Probably because magic isn't really something you control, you only manipulate aspects of it .... at least, that's what I get from just observing people.

And that sounds like it's regulated and ... normal. You develop it as a kid and then you, what, practice it til adulthood? It's not hidden at all?

[ back at home this kid would've been poached by the mafia or something. ]

[ Midoriya nods, absorbing the momentary wisdom Giorno offers. Manipulate it. He wonders to himself how different it was from quirks, exactly.

The question that Giorno offers is a little surprising. ]
Well. It wasn't always this way. The first quirk appeared like three hundred years ago; prior to that, no one had them at all. These days, almost everyone has a quirk of some variety. My mom can make things float toward her, and my dad's a fire breather. There's rules in place for them since they're so commonplace, like you can't use quirks in public 'cause it can cause trouble for others.

Not everyone practices their quirks, though. It would really just depend on if you think your own quirk is useful or not.

Huh, that's neat. [ a pause as he wonders how much he can actually talk about circumstances back home. ] All magical abilities back home aren't normal, so I guess it can be isolating if you developed one on your own. I'm with friends, though, so it's not really that bad. But you're right, learning how to control it can be a pain, especially if you're not really sure how to practice it or if you don't have anyone skilled to teach you.

Who keeps track of quirks in your world?

Haha, don't I know how that feels, [ Pain is like the singular word to describe Midoriya's slow quirk development. ]

The government. When our quirks manifest, we're supposed to send in a form to update it. Otherwise we're just considered quirkless. I'm pretty sure it's because quirks are kinda like fingerprints, you know?

[ no, not really. he supposed, though, that it's more or less that quirks are unique in the same way no two stands are alike considering what stands are and how they can be used. the idea of regulating stands, though .... ]

That's so different from what I know. It sounds wonderful, really.
