hearsthesea: (don't flee down the easy path)

[Fenimore. Jade sounds like Fenimore right now with her sheer force of personality, and Shirley instinctively straightens as Jade commands her attention. She couldn't argue with Fenimore, back in the village, and she can't argue with this either.]

I--okay.

[It takes a moment to come down from the shock, but she stares at the vine and tries to remember. The sea's rage, which she's already drawn on in captivity; the cruel callousness of Crusand's army, and the sight of long-spilled blood; the despair of Fenimore's death, and the realization that not even her own people cared enough to try and save her. And now Shehui's promise of a truce, like they really care to coexist with the coven after two weeks of captivity and relentless experimentation.

She throws a punch and lands it solidly this time. It's definitely a step up from her first attempt, although she still winces and rubs her knuckles afterward.]

Ow...that hurt. But I did it, right?
