During Breakout
[ For once in his life, Jake is trying neither to play the part of a hero, nor is he trying to cower, convinced he'll only do more harm than good. True, he still thinks he's worthless and a burden but he has to believe, for the sake of Jade and Madoka and Geir and everyone else, that he can help. Not just for them but for the rescue team, too. He doesn't think he's key to the operation but he has to do his part. He has to at least be a functional cog in the machine.

Despite everything, he's trying not to really harm any of the monitors, using his skills with his pistols to target non-fatal areas and hope they drop keys in the process. And luck does tend to swing his way thanks to his probability magic. It even trips them up or has them run down the wrong hall, not noticing the group until its too late. At least a few times.]

[After he finds Jade and knows she's in good hands, safe and sound, he goes out to help others. As much as he wants to be selfish and stay with her, he cares about everyone else too.

But he's distracted thinking about her and a monitor uses that to their advantage, trying to attack him with a scalpel. Jake falls back and shoots them in the upper arm, figuring that would be enough but no. The monitor keeps coming at him and sure, he's pissed at them for hurting his friends but this is just weird, somehow mindless of the pain.]

Dagnabbit I am trying to spare you an early grave so could you please kindly ow—

[Yeah the monitor got his cheek and his definitely not listening. But maybe you heard the gunshot... ]

Contraband Rooms
[Not too long after, Jake is looting. He doesn't know what the plan is after and he doesn't know what half these items do but he's shoving them into his backpack, cramming down the food bars he brought.

He drops a deck of cards in his haste, all of which turn into animals. Is it an illusion? Who knows but now there's a plump, affectionate pigeon cooing on your head and a rabbit stuck in Jake's hood, among an assortment of other small animals.]

Oh goodness gracious what even is the use of that?!

Post-Breakout
[With the truce called, Jake knows he should leave. But he's just got a weird feeling about that strange sound and the monitors' reactions.

He's frowning in front of one that he just keeps poking with the barrel of his gun.]
