[WORLD TWO | THE OTHER HALF]
Who: Others not on the list of the Chosen 12
Where: Around Shehui
When:
Open/Closed: Open to All, though top levels shouldn't be made by Chosen 12 members -- however, direct telepathy links can be sent to Chosen 12 members, and Chosen 12 members can respond to open telepathy prompts. This post is meant more for those who aren't part of the Chosen 12 so they can react with others or plot their next move.
[ While your name isn't on the list that has been circulating, it doesn't mean that you're unaffected by this issue. Did someone you know -- someone you have a fondness for, perhaps? -- wind up on that list? And did they manage to evade the monitors or have they been captured?
You may have the resources to do something about it, or you may want to stay out of harm's way. Either way, changes are on the horizon -- and that horizon is now looming closer than ever before. ]

[And so it's natural for a YoRHa unit to leave maintenance to a Scanner, or a Pod if they were in the field. For units who had never heard of them, and weren't built to be part of the same force, trust isn't implicit. Besides which, what a Scanner can do is potentially intrusive.
Knowing as he does what it's like to have his systems poked into without consent, 9S certainly has opinions about it. His situation involved an enemy using his personal data to toy with him, but even were that not the case, he knows androids who aren't YoRHa should be apprised of what he is capable of before he ever does any maintenance.
Because it's systems, and not just hardware, that he was designed to repair]
I'd want you to know what I can do, besides. It's not like we've got backup bodies, or servers to store our personal data, here.
no subject
I'm glad you understand, and I also appreciate your concern. I've never had such backup capability for my body or memories either...that information was locked even to me.
[ She hasn't uploaded her memories to a server, or had any backup bodies or anything of the sort. The fact that her sister units' memories were stored in her in some way, unreachable and locked, didn't even hit her until recently. ]
What are your capabilities, then?
no subject
[But he knows by now how bizarre it sounds to others. He knows it isn't the sort of thing that Sophie had been accustomed to, certainly. However her capacity for self-repair far exceeds anything that they can do]
As a Scanner unit I'm capable of more than just bodily repairs. Maintenance includes internal systems as well, and I do that through hacking. It's a connection I can create that allows me to run diagnostics and fix problems without physical access. Hacking space can include memory, and things like that, but 2B can tell you I don't go digging around.
It's generally just making sure everything functions the way it should. But I wouldn't want that to be a surprise if I did end up giving you a hand with maintenance, since no one in the coven seems familiar with it except other YoRHa units.
no subject
The hacking is what mostly surprises (and concerns) her, and he lists the exact reason why. She's already been reprogrammed once, and it turned out fatal (though not directly from her hands). ]
...I see. You're very skilled in your job. Can you interface with other sorts of machines through your hacking? We're not of the same make, after all.
[ Not to mention the weird thing she has going on with her Papillon Heart...or Plumes of Dusk, rather. ]
no subject
[Which is to say he isn't the only one, or at least wasn't, at some point in time. Regardless of their number, any Scanner could of course function in the same way. They might have different personal approaches, but the results should ultimately be the same. If 4S were here, he'd make a point of stating as much, but...
Well, for the time being he's the only one]
So long as it's electronic, I don't imagine I'd have trouble. I've even managed where magic-based targets were concerned, but I wasn't exactly made for that sort of thing.
[And he'd sooner not be faced with hostiles wielding magic, but that's neither here nor there when maintenance is the matter at hand]
no subject
[ Personas are weird. Her state of being, where her memory circuits were supposedly blown out after the events of the Answer, yet she's still alive and kicking with those same memories, is also weird. Still, system repairs and the occasional maintenance and checkup are certainly important to have. Mechanics, she can repeat the instructions to. Not so much to someone who isn't familiar with robotic workings.
She shakes her head, almost instinctively, even if they both know they can't see each other in the not-flesh at the moment. ]
I suppose we'll see when it happens. With any luck, I won't need it for a while.
[ But this is her basically admitting she's trusting him...for now. ]
Ah, one more question. Who mentioned me to you? I haven't met anyone here who even recognizes me.
[ None of her friends (she'd be right by their side if they were here) or even enemies or frenemies (like Sho) are here, as far as she can tell. ]
no subject
[Which by all accounts is a good thing, and he can only hope that it remains the case. But he's seen enough unfortunate scenarios to know better than to expect that things will just turn out okay, or that they've seen the worst of what they could possibly face in this or any world.
The fact that there are apparently so many that support life is itself an unanticipated reality]
A guy named Minato approached me when I was repairing myself once, and he said he knew an android too. We didn't get to talk for very long though.
no subject
And speaking of frail, fleshy humans, if 9S was expecting her to comment on maintenance, it's all flown out the window the moment he utters a certain name that belongs to a human she hasn't spoken about out loud (directly, at least) in years. Telepathy this may be, she lets out a small gasp, her thoughts themselves momentarily jumbled at the mere mention. ]
...I-I'm sorry?
[ That's not possible. It shouldn't be. He couldn't have approached 9S while he was repairing himself, because he's gone. Dead. Buried six feet under. (Not that she could confirm herself; she regrets not going to his funeral.) If it's the same Minato he's referring to, of course, but what other Minato could bring her up in conversation, mention that he also knew an android named Aigis?
Her chest hurts, her heart pangs (and no she doesn't care if she technically doesn't have a fleshy, beating heart; the pain is still the same, felt as keenly as any human heart can), and she instinctively holds her hand close to the base of her neck. ]
9S-san, I...I would like to trust you, but this is no time to joke around or deceive.
[ And it has to be a joke or a lie, because she understands the finality of it all (or maybe she doesn't want to accept the fact that he was here, his footsteps imprinted in the ground, living a life without his friends and without her at his side at some point) but death is no laughing matter. ]

[His thoughts echo those words as he turns them about in his thought routines, unsure why she doubts him. There could be any number of reasons, but he can be sure of one thing. She doubts the possibility that he could have met this person. Perhaps she even views it as impossible.
Having seen quite a few impossible things himself by now, 9S can understand incredulity. The reason for doubting in this instance leaves him more than a little curious, but he recognizes it isn't the time]
Hold on, I'll show you my memory.
[Some time ago he had learned from Geir that he could share his recollections, and so that's what he does. He focuses on the image of a young man in dark apparel leaning over and peering at him, dark blue hair falling heavily over one of his blue eyes.
When he opens his mouth to speak, 9S' memory supplies the sound of the voice he'd heard, asking if he was alright]
That's the person I met.
no subject
It's him. It's 100% him. She almost winces, seeing his face again, albeit blocked by his hair as usual (as she prefers it). The way he leans over and peers at the viewer is enough to make her let out a mental gasp. The tightness in her chest is real, and although she's come to terms with his passing a while ago, having him shown to her as a memory still stings, like he's so close she could almost touch him, if her hands would just reach far enough, just tried hard enough―
In the end, all she can manage is one shaky word. ]
...How?
no subject
But to know someone was there and gone, and not see them for oneself...
It seems unfair, and a part of him regrets having visited this upon her]
Someone I met here said he and his brother came from different times, somehow. It could be something like that. 2B and I, we weren't functional, the last we remembered. But units like us can be repaired. Humans...
Maybe it was magic, or maybe it was that time-thing. I wish I knew for sure.
no subject
[ Screwing around with time, in other words. Just like the Abyss of Time, except this time, they haven't gone back in time (as far as she knows) but rather, dragged someone else out of it. Alive and kicking, with the future yet to happen. Units like her and her sister, and 9S and 2B and A2 can be repaired. Humans, on the other hand, are a one and done deal, which makes their lives all the more precious.
She doubts that it was magic that freed his soul, after all. Not when he willingly gave it up to bind something else. But if magic like that existed...she must learn about it, find out more about it. If Qri was capable of bringing him here before...a new priority, of great importance, springs into her head.
She shakes her head, attempting to compose herself after that brief break in it. It's not 9S's fault; he didn't know. None of his friends even knew until they pulled back the curtain and saw for themselves how Minato ended up. ]
I-I'm sorry. It was such a shock...seeing him [ so precious, like a light in her life, forgiving her after what awful things she did to them ] again.
no subject
[9S will never forget the mixture of emotions that threatened to overload his circuits when he crossed paths with 2B in Aimintas. He had scarcely known what to do with himself then, faced with the sudden reality that the most important person in his existence was suddenly alive and whole once again.
Had he only found out that she had been there just before him, and he'd only arrived in her wake... He thinks it would be just as overwhelming, for considerably different reasons. To treasure someone and lose them had been unbearable for him. Losing them, then finding that they had impossibly appeared elsewhere, well.
She has every reason to respond as she has, to say the least]
Sometimes, people come back to this coven-thing, so...I hope you'll get to see him for yourself.
[He's not sure whether it's right to suggest that, but he hopes it for her. Because he may not know the story between them, but the importance of that person in Aigis' life seems clear enough to him]
no subject
[ She stutters, hesitates, unsure of herself. It's true that her heart wants to see him again, alive and breathing and maybe not quite cheerfully smiling (it wouldn't fit him) but perhaps with a soft, gentle, peaceful smile on his face like the one he gave her when he rested his head on her lap that day.
But the problem with that is the reason why Minato died. If his soul wasn't there to protect humanity, then that spells even greater disaster. But if Qri apparently brought him here, alive, even while his soul was acting as the Great Seal, then... ]
I...you've given me a lot to think about, 9S-san. I will have to sort my thoughts out, but thank you for showing me that memory. ...Even if it was painful, I appreciated it.
[ Aigis feels a slight twinge of jealousy at the fact that he was one of possibly a handful to see Minato after he died in her lap, her faint but latent jealousy, borne of insecurity, rearing its head again. Just a tad. She thought she could be the person to have his dying moments all to herself (save for Yukari), and yet here someone is, saying they met him too. ]

[As much as it pained him when he was already falling apart, he was grateful to have stumbled upon 2B's flight unit. Her final words for him were ones left for someone to convey, and perhaps she never anticipated that he'd be the one to find them, but he was.
It was the closest he'd gotten to tears in all that time, hearing what she had to say about him, especially because he understood the significance of it. His existence had caused her no small measure of suffering and pain, and yet...
Well, he was grateful. So he thinks he can understand Aigis, at least a little. He does wish she'd gotten something more direct than his memory though]
Even if it's not maintenance, let me know if you need anything, okay?
no subject
Yes, I will. Thank you, 9S-san.
[ ... ]
...Ah. One more thing. When we meet in person, could you teach me how to show memories like that?
[ She's always had a little difficulty communicating with others about her experiences and feelings; being able to show memories would be a big step up for her. For instance, although 9S probably knows by now her memories of Minato are painful for her, she has good ones of him too, that she'd like to show him. Memento mori. Carpe diem. ]
