[So you may have gotten a telepathic message a few days ago about an expedition to map the coastline . . . or maybe you were invited along by a friend. Whatever the reason, it's bright and early this morning, and it's time to set out!

Characters would have gotten a further telepathic message from Jay with a date and time to meet outside the shacks. They'll be heading east along the "shore," tracking the coast, and then heading directly back towards base camp . . . who knows what they'll find along the way?]

[The exchange unsettles him again, ironically; he was beginning to calm down by virtue of arguments about fashion. Stupid bickering is normal, par for the course with everyone he knows. Someone intervening isn't.

He focuses on powers.]

Caesar is like a sunlamp. I worked by his handlight the other evening. The soul dive was a pretty interesting experience. Unfortunately, I couldn't glean anything from it aspect-wise here. Mikleo has a weirdly calming three-dimensionalized soul metaphor.

[ uhhhhhhh. he didn't expect the request and looks over at john like john will have an answer solely because rose isn't there to look at and there's a moment where he glances to his side like he expects her to be there before he looks to john. exactly how often did he hang out at her hip during the course of the last three years? ]

The other healer is a girl with green hair. She asked to punch me. Jay's a touch empath, and so I think is Giorno. But maybe they work by different rules. Oh, and Chiaki...buffs people, I guess. [ his tone goes weird when he mentions chiaki, like he has no idea what the fuck to think about the guy, which is true. ] He hugged me and apparently owes me dinner based on a deadpan joke I made.

We have way too many touch-based powers in the vicinity. And obviously Minato is beads.

[Oh. He notices and he's quiet even as he subtly takes a step closer to where Dave is even as he's also moving to scoop up another wayward frog.]

That's something we can do back at the main camp? Seems pretty dumb to do it out here, but still doable.

[And instead he's picking up the other thread of conversation.] I knew about Jay and Giorno, too. Didn't really know much about Chiaki's powers but uh, that makes sense. He's kind of a lot. [But he likes him?] Minato's power is still pretty useful for travel, too. Maybe I'll ask everybody before we leave what power they have so we can organize for the next planet…whenever that is.

[Dirk can't even respond to all of that. Chiaki, hilariously, he can handle.]

Chiaki reminds me a lot of Squarewave. [...Oh yeah they have no idea who that is.] Squarewave is a robot I built. He does rap battles and invariably loses, but it makes him really happy. He gets like an excited puppy, or at least what I figure excited puppies are like, whenever he thinks I'm about to challenge him to a rap battle.

[Honestly, Squarewave is adorable.]

Collating information on our powers is a good idea.

[ it's a lot of words. dave takes refuge in just responding to the parts that do not require him to analyze thoughts or feelings. ]

You're the leader, bro. I think that nominally puts you in charge of askin' people shit like that wholesale. Mostly because I don't feel like addressin' the group at large. And it would be cruel to inflict Rose on people with interrogation permissions.

You made a rapping robot? [He's so confused, bro. He actually seems pretty intrigued by that because why even, but then Dave's talking and John sobers up a little again. Mediating. Keeping things light even though he knows he doesn't really need to.]

Anyway...we'll see. Depending when what we find out next it probably would not hurt. Maybe people can be like us and work together with what they have. Especially if we are stuck with just the one power.

Two. Squarewave lost every rap battle he ever engaged in, and Sawtooth won them all. I literally never was able to beat him.

It'd be easiest to ask over the network and let 'em discuss what to do mingle-style.

Why would you program them that way? I mean it makes sense as a balance but I am just curious.

That tends to be what happens when something is unbeatable and you challenge it.

Squarewave was an early experiment in programming for rapping. Sawtooth was the later model with a more advanced AI. But it felt wrong to change Squarewave's programming when he had so much fun with it.

[ that's it. he has no further words coming to mind and doesn't even bother to look helplessly at john this time. someone else will have to converse until dave comes back from the war. ]

Do you think you could make something like that here with the right supplies? Not necessarily a rap-bot, but other stuff.

Yeah, pretty much. I spent a lot of my time salvagin' the detritus of the sunken city and puttin' together parts into various robotic creations. I just need the supplies and some tools.

[ john and dirk seem to be doing fine so dave will just let them do fine for a bit while he tries to think of things to say, ok. ]

[What if he just hands Dave a frog to occupy himself?]

I'd like to see what we can pick up from other planets and recreate. I mean I have my fusing thing, sure, but I cannot really create stuff tech-wise. But I can code a little so there's that. And Dave could probably draw up some tools if we knew what they looked like.

I'll keep an eye out for shit. [Actually] Do you know if I could get parts from the fridge guy?

[ well now dave is holding a frog i guess. luckily gross shit doesn't bug him so he's just mildly "why".

It's mostly been food from what I know. We were talkin' hypothetically about what all could be in 'em. I don't know if he can control it.

[The frog needs a better father figure than John, that's why.]

On the other hand, if the fridges themselves are fine what is stopping us from taking them apart and fishing for parts? If there isn't a limit on how many a day Lenka can produce...but maybe that's something to ask him.

It would be convenient if it checks out. Fridges have a lot of useful mechanical parts. Some might even have computer chips I could use.

Dunno. Everyone has limitations, but I don't think everyone knows 'em yet.

[John shoots him a Look because bye frog. But he rolls his eyes instead.]

Then we'll figure it out together. We should probably keep going though and see how much further we can get before everybody else wants to head back. What do you think?

Split up again? [ directed at john, but less a statement and more a question. he'll go with whatever john decides without any argument. ]

[...he's still not sure what's up. He does pick up that something's up and that Dave's leaving the decision to him, so he nods slowly.]

Let's head back to where the majority went and we can split up from there to see what hasn't been covered yet. We can cover more ground if we split up, but nobody should be by themselves either.

[A compromise at best, and still trying to be a good leader. He's doing his best to juggle it and still be a good friend because at the end of the day, his best friends win out. But it feels wrong to leave Dirk hanging, too. What a weird situation...] Good idea?
