[So you may have gotten a telepathic message a few days ago about an expedition to map the coastline . . . or maybe you were invited along by a friend. Whatever the reason, it's bright and early this morning, and it's time to set out!

Characters would have gotten a further telepathic message from Jay with a date and time to meet outside the shacks. They'll be heading east along the "shore," tracking the coast, and then heading directly back towards base camp . . . who knows what they'll find along the way?]

I am not getting scolded twice over by people who are apparently perfectly willing to go over the edge themselves. That is all kinds of unfair on the risk-takin' front.

All reports of Jane's Poppop said he was an excellent dad, not to mention a really solid cornball comedian.

[Dirk admired him, like he admired all their ancestors. They had been heroes, each one, in their own way.]

[ dave flips them both off? before slanting a look at john and actually actively smiling in amusement. it's not huge, because he doesn't really do huge smiles, but it's visible enough to count as one for him. ]

I will not take it back because you forget: I was Rose's fuckin' server player. We did actually see you steal her cat and abandon a salamander you picked up in its place? You, dude, are a terrible father. I can't argue the Rose loves you and would understand part, though. The main point here is that I suspect we will end up helpin' to care for your adoptees so keep 'em to a reasonable level.

[What if he just starts keeping track of the number of times Dave's actually smiled since they got here? What if. He doesn't find it to be a brand new novelty like he did the first time but he does like what it means even if it's at the expense of himself.]

I didn't go over the edge yet, so my scolding counts. And also. Sometimes a father has to let his children spread their wings? Casey was fine and came with me and Jade on our ship. Dr. Meowgon wanted to come along on the rocketpack, what was I supposed to do? I'm not going to pick up and adopt stuff from every planet, jeez.

[There's a grin Dirk's direction.] I think I heard that. It's kind of cool to think about it that way. Jake told me. Well. About the last part I mean.

[Dirk flips off at Dave right back, then startles at the smile, making himself pull back from his surprise (startled, strangely happy and sad at once) to focus elsewhere.]

There are little baby wild boars around.

[Why is he suggesting other things for John to adopt.]

No. [ to john, re: the possibility of boars. ] Also, don't lie, you are absolutely gonna pick up and adopt stuff from every planet. I know you, Egbert, that is a thing you will entirely do. R - she ain't here.

[ he was about to say "rose back me up". ]

[He laughs then.] Yeah, Akira and I were thinking about trying to tame some of the boar on the island to see if we could. If there are babies around that would be easier.

[But he's still trying to look semi-offended.] I don't enough hands to pick up everything, so no. I will be limited in my adoptions. [This is the idiot who put a salamander and frogs in his sylladex, what do you want from him.] The thing is these animals are almost like what you would find on earth. I was expecting something more alien by now.

Unless they're from Earth. Genette said she was, but she sure as fuck isn't referring to any language or cultural tradition I've ever heard of even in passing.

That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but it doesn't seem that improbable that she'd be from a world that made it past where our world ended. So maybe this was yanked out of an iteration of Earth too.

Oh, I like him. [ re: akira, immediately. ] Did you know his power runs on jokes? The more puns he tells in a row the better it does.

[ some people have incredibly out there powers. dave likes some and dislikes others. ]

But also: leave the poor boar alone. ...Though come to think of it, Minato offered to go milk one for me? [ personas... ] Maybe we should chill it on antagonizin' the wild life, though.

I did not, but that's really funny. I want to see it. And don't let Minato milk anything, the boar might get mad.

[But Dirk brings up a good point.] I noticed that, too. An alternate earth is possible but then wouldn't that mean maybe she knows most of the normal earth history? We could ask her, I guess. Either that or she's from an earth before ours that was started over. That would explain why everything here looks a little busted.

That raises the question of what it does better.

[Dirk's encounter with Akira was being the dude's DD during a wormmist problem.]

No harm in askin'. She's probably more agreeable to people who don't repeatedly question authority, and even then she was freakishly benign.

[He got Mom'd at and didn't respond to it great.]

She has other reasons to dislike you probably.

Anyway, Akira's a pyro. [ but he has to tell jokes to light up. okay then. ] I think the outright weirdest thing I've heard about is Lenka's.

[A lift of his eyebrows to Dave, but nothing more. He's back to picking up reeds.]

Maybe I'll talk to her someday soon, but I haven't had a reason to. And I didn't know that about Akira, so that's even better. [But uh.] What's Lenka's? Have you guys been figuring out everybody's powers?

[It makes Dirk's head snap towards Dave, his brows furrowed in. He tries to modulate his reaction and it's true that a frown doesn't get onto his face but his eyes are stuck on Dave behind his shades and he forces himself to speak, drags the words out of his throat so that they don't sound hurt.]

I'd be interested to hear what reasons those might be.

She likes things that look nice. Fashion-wise. She was real particular about those accessories she made, and how she dressed.

[ dirk is dirk. dave redirects his attention to john. ]

And yeah, I guess I have been? It's normal to ask people, I think - but uh, Lenka can fuckin' summon refrigerators.

It would. We could potentially survive on boar jerky indefinitely, but I'm not sure anyone wants to.

I wonder if a healer could do something about this . . . we have some of those here, don't we?

I didn't think there would be a day-night cycle, so at this point I'm of the opinion, "Sure, why the fuck not."

[A day-night cycle. These weird instances of running water. The continued presence of life despite the necessary infrastructure for a proper ecosystem. Why the fuck not rain.]

[Dave. Buddy. He's just going to keep quiet for a minute even as he continues giving Dave a thoughtful look, letting his expression slide to Dirk because this is definitely not his fight. He's the referee if needed, but not the pinch hitter.

On the other hand he looks comically perplexed by the refrigerator reveal so. Cool. Awesome.]

[Dirk relaxes a fraction, feeling ashamed for his instant anxiety, his feeling that Dave must hate him—and then pauses.]

[He gestures at the three piece.]

Food mostly but random shit. Minato said a fridge full of swords wasn't out of the question. So I imagine it's like...luck of the draw, and might have useful items, weapons, or consumables? You'd have to ask Lenka about any limitations or specifics. I didn't talk to the dude about it.

It might actually make a very large frog. I know I told you I can't merge intangible objects with real objects, but frogs are pretty tangible? But they're also alive so I'm not sure if they will mutate or what.

Dude. [The way that's it said could be for Dirk to the untrained ear, but it's definitely for Dave to cool his jets just a little.] But I do wonder if the other planets will have clothes and stuff we can grab, too.

[He shakes his head.] When I talked to Lenka I did not even think of that, but that could also be useful while we're traveling if he knows how to pick up the refrigerators again. A lot of these powers are ranging from really cool to really weird.
