[WORLD ONE] AIMINTAS (INTRODUCTION)
Who: The coven & Palai people
Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas
When: Days 13 & 14
Open/Closed: Open to All

The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!

Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas
When: Days 13 & 14
Open/Closed: Open to All

Just like how you arrived, the process of leaving the hub and reappearing somewhere else is quite quick and uneventful. Brie and Genette gather as many people as possible so that everyone can explore the new world together in a group, which is where they all land once Qri has worked her magic. If you weren't in the vicinity, or thought that not being social meant you'd get to stay on the island, you come along as well, though you didn't exactly show up with the group.
The initial terrain is quite interesting -- it's at least different from the hub island, though you may not be particularly impressed. There's sticky kelp to step in, water in the sky to look at and sand to get stuck in every orifice of your body. How do you like the new digs thus far? B ▢ Genette explains that the gang must enter the city of Aimintas to survive, but it's easier said than done. Maybe as something of an incentive, Genette climbs into Qri's caravan and it floats away, over the rock face. There go all the supplies you brought! The rest of you losers will have to climb through the craggy rock walls, hundreds of feet tall with very few crevices and cracks that are navigable. Hope you can climb...or maybe you can find a way to get through using someone's magic? The sun sets while the coven is busy trying to get through the craggy infrastructure (at least, that's the fate of those who don't find a quicker way to get into the city). Brie locates a large cave in one of the rocks, and that's where everyone sets up camp for the night. If you want to carry on, that's your choice...but who knows if anything that goes bump in the night is out there bumping in the night time?

It takes about a day to travel to Aimintas, climb through the rocks and come into the city. Thankfully the city hub is close to the side of the city the coven managed to climb through, so civilization is awaiting. That civilization is decently modern, lizard-like and very, very nosy.
Because they're so enamored, the Palai will readily give coven members gifts as a token of their appreciation. What exactly do they appreciate? Don't be afraid to ask a few simple questions. They'll be more than happy to give out answers. E ▢ Some Palai, though, will want to see some of that magic before they offer up any gifts. Some may be a little demanding, just because their curiosity is so overwhelming. A harsh no will result in an apology and a gift anyways, but maybe just show them some magic anyway...? Even outside of interacting with the Palai, there's quite a bit around here to look at. Genette can be found in the middle of one of the parks, handing out the stored supplies to their owners. (Don't worry, she'll tell you where she is with a little telepathic poke. Your supplies will give you access to shopping and bartering...your status as a magical humanoid thing will only get you so far.
G ▢ Finally, the Palai are a people of culture. That culture can be quite unforgiving to those who choose to wander around alone. Some Palai people, after the initial wonder has worn off, will deny services to people who are on their own. It just doesn't compute! Your character is better off with a group of three, but a friend is fine. Travel in groups or couples and your character will find that they get fewer strange looks and questions. |

It can be easy to get overwhelmed within the Palai marketplace, so no one will blame a coven-member for escaping the city for a bit. On the outside of the marketplace is a very large house with dozens of Palai congregating -- and my dozens, we mean at least 200. A Palai mate triangle just committed to each other, and this is certainly worth celebrating.
I ▢ Wildcard! How will your character interact with this new and unusual world? |
c
Still, the familiar girl at the mouth of the cave draws his attention and he looks down at her for a moment before turning his eyes back to the sky.]
Not sure who can with all of this happening around us. [He doesn't sound like he minds, but there's concern in his expression. It's then his eyes flit over to the pink glow.] ...where'd you find that?
no subject
[she stands, Soul Gem now in her hands, turning to face John so that he can get a better look.]
This is my Soul Gem. It's the source of my magic — well, my usual magic.
no subject
So...your magic comes from an egg-looking rock thing? [He's going to bend a little to get a closer look.] That's different. [Cool, but different.] Where was it back on the island?
no subject
I can show you how it works, if you want. [Madoka hasn't had a reason to transform, but ... she's seen other people talking about and using their old powers already. hers would probably work fine, too, right?]
no subject
[But at the offer he looks even more surprised and he leans back to give her a curious look.]
If you don't mind, sure, definitely. I would like to see how it works. [Like outside of manga and stuff. Show him how real magical girls do, Madoka.] But it can wait, too, if it's too late or something.
no subject
Well, Mami-san likes for us to make a big entrance, but it isn't really necessary! I think she said once that it helps us come together as a team better.
This is all I need to do — [the Soul Gem rematerializes in her hand, and, in another short burst of light and what feels like a blast of air, Madoka's clothes have changed into something even pinker and full of ribbons and fluff than she normally is. in an outstretched hand, she summons a bow that seems to be made out of a gnarled stick, with an unbloomed rosebud placed at the top.]
no subject
His eyes shift first from her outfit, then her weapon, and then back to her face as he tries to take all of this in.]
You. Really have your transformation sequence down. I didn't even see anything, it was like one minute you were you and the next you were super-you. [It's so. Pink.] So what exactly does being a magical girl mean in your world anyway?
no subject
I can show you a much more exciting transformation next time! It's sort of like a dance, to get ready for battle.
[she pats at her dress for a second, fluffing it out a bit. what does it mean to be a magical girl? there are a lot of answers to that question.]
Magical girls ... are contracted to fight Nightmares. They're monsters that feed on people's negative thoughts and dreams. People can't see them usually! But they can do a lot of damage.
Maybe it means something different to each person, but for me ... I'm just happy that I can help people sleep easy.
no subject
So you're kind of like magical Sandmen. You defeat the monsters, sure, but who makes sure that you guys are resting easy? [Somehow that is a concern, but...] What do the Nightmares look like? Are they all different?
no subject
Eh ... Sort of! They look a bit like dolls, and they wear ... [Madoka lifts her arms and spreads them, drawing a circle in the air as she brings them down again.]
Bear heads? If you know someone, you can tell what their Nightmare would look like, anyway. The trick to defeating them is to turn the negative thoughts into sweet ones — we usually do that by feeding them.
[if it sounds too strange to be true, John, that's because it is. what Madoka remembers right now is a universe away from what she really fights.]
no subject
Hopefully you won't have to fight anything like that here, especially since I think we are lacking in supplies to feed monsters. It sounds like a tough job though. How many are on your team again?
no subject
There are five of us, plus Bebe! So, it's actually not too bad at all — since there's so many of us, we don't have to use as much of our magic in one go.
no subject
That is a good thing. And with six of you, technically, you can split up into teams and nobody is at a disadvantage. There were four of us in our session and four players in the others' session, plus the twelve trolls in theirs. I guess for things like these partners are easier. And you all became magical girls...why? Or, how, actually. I'm guessing you all have rings and everything.
no subject
Well ... Kyubey is the one who makes the contract. He grants you a wish, and in exchange, you become a magical girl and must fight against the Nightmares. Or, any sort of darkness that threatens your home.
no subject
Kyubey sounds like he's pretty powerful, too. But that means your wish was already granted, wasn't it? Or do you have to fight forever until he decides it's enough? [How do contracts work.] And um. You can stop answering questions whenever you want. I just have a lot of them.
no subject
It depends on your wish specifically, but usually, when you make a contract with Kyubey, he grants your wish right there and then.
He can grant nearly any wish — but a lot of people would probably consider the price for it to be pretty high. [being a magical girl isn't an easy life, even when you have a large team working together.]
no subject
[Madoka's one of the nicest people he's met here. It just makes sense. However, there's something about wishes he wonders about and he's listening anyway.]
If you're signing away your life to fight monsters, some people probably are not okay with that. But that would depend on how valuable your wish is. [...] Can...I ask what yours was? Or does that go against the magical girl code?
no subject
[... ... at least until a random memory of a wish finally snaps into place.]
I wanted to save a cat.
[why that one, out of all the possible wishes she could have remembered.]
no subject
no subject
[Madoka literally traded her own life for a cat, because she did not survive that timeline.]
[but she can't help but feel strange, either. why did it take her a moment to remember something as life-changing as the reason she became a magical girl? she shakes her head.]
It ... sounds pretty silly, doesn't it? But I guess, in the end, I would have been happy with any wish I chose. I think what I really wanted was to be strong enough to help others.
no subject
Yeah, a little. But at the same time maybe not? If a magical girl is supposed to fight and protect everyone, you've gotta start small. Why not start with a cat? [It doesn't make sense, but what does these days?] And you got better with your powers and stuff, so everything was fine. [An upturn of his lip.] A friend once told me that no matter what, some things are just supposed to happen. Maybe you becoming a magical girl was something like that.
no subject
You really think so, John-san? [she seems pleased at the thought, and maybe a little embarrassed. if this is her fate, then ... well, to be honest, Madoka couldn't have imagined a better one.]
I just hope I'm doing Amy-chan justice ... I'll be trying my best, anyway!
no subject
[Wait.] Uh. Is Amy the cat?
no subject
[if they have nothing else, they have the ability to keep moving.]
Yes! She's a little black kitten — she usually hangs out around my school.
no subject
Glad to hear she's doing okay now and that you guys are taking care of her. Being able to see something like that makes the choice a little easier, I think. [A pause.] Also cats are cute. [So there's that.]
