[It starts with a telepathic message over video, Jay using the mirror shard gifted by Genette to broadcast this message to the rest of the coven:]

It's come to our attention that some of you are going to want to help the Palai with their raid problem, so we thought--if we're going to be involved in this anyway, we might as well do it right. How about a meeting in front of our temporary home at noon? We'll discuss our strategy and assign roles. I'll broadcast it via this link, as well, for anyone who can't make it back in time. We welcome input from anyone who has a brain in their heads.

[If you come to the front of the house at the appointed time, you will indeed find Jay and Dirk standing together discussing--something, and perhaps a small crowd beginning to gather. This meeting will also be broadcast over the signets for anyone who wants to listen in there.]

How long he takes to recharge gets another pause, as he remembers when he first summoned and it took him an entire week to wake up, and how much stronger he's gotten since then. ]

I don't usually fight for long, or very often. So night after night is no problem if I sleep in between. [ Waiting overnight isn't a feasible option this time, so ] I could powernap when there are lulls in the battle.

I can carry food around in my pockets for that. Do we have enough people for a buddy system? I'm strong enough to fight by myself.

To some degree, that might depend on how many Uvi attack. The thing is, I think it's stupid to risk permanently losing any of our people to try to avoid getting spread too thin. For one thing, it ends up spreading us more thin, and also, it would be great if you didn't die.

[ Minato's voice, already quiet, lowers even more. ]

When fighting, it's always a possibility. And sometimes, the risk is necessary... especially if we can end the Uvi attacks permanently.

[splinten]

I know people die.

[There's a tired edge to Dirk's voice.]

That doesn't mean I'm going to fuckin' invite it when I don't have to.

You're not. That's why you're preparing all this... You and Jay.

[Right. Dirk is letting the pain get to him, the loss—Jake, Jane, Dave. He is letting himself feel their deaths. And he can't. They need to do this.]
