Their data couldn't be backed up.

[That's the simpler question to answer. The others were indeed gone forever because their memory couldn't be salvaged. When the Bunker fell, they all lost the ability to back up their personal data and import into a new body. Now he's fairly sure only a handful of them remain.

It's strange. At one time he had other Scanners heckling him to back up data so the rest of them could do theirs, and now...]


We can feel sorrow. I imagine we can feel as much as anybody else, although I have no way to be sure.

[He knows how difficult to was to be faced with infected units he didn't want to fight. Even before that point, he won't ever forget how difficult to was to be pitted against units who had defected from YoRHa. It was a struggle to view them, much less approach them, as enemies]
