was
concerned at first.
[there was mild scolding and trying to actually explain to a dog why knifes are bad...]
But he was insistent on using it so it felt wiser to help him master the weapon than to try to keep him away from them.
[since he could find a knife, try to use it and then harm himself. better to let repede learn than have him get hurt.]
