How did you get into this building? This apartment room? What the fuck is going on? Let's refer back to this page for a semi in-depth, wow so detailed, explanation of your current situation. You'll also have a letter slipped under your door with some explanation about your whole coven situation, as well as info that explains you have magic now! And yet what kind of magic is conveniently left out.

Yes...I hadn't thought to mention it because I'd rather not have anything else taken from me.

[He looks dejected, and nods as if already knowing what the other's going to say] So I've noticed.

[ he needs all the luck in the world to think his classmates wouldn't lose their minds at his sudden disappearance and risk derailing their planning.

he folds his arms and scoffs—at his own situation more than anything else. he doesn't have the context to realize it's hard to war against people if there's only so many of them left. ]

I wish I could say the same. There's no shortage of people who will sacrifice others for their own gain in the Empire, and no shortage of enemies outside of it. [ it doesn't help at least two of those people stand at the top of the chain of command, though he's not quite aware how deep that goes. ]

The monsters are never-ending, but one expects a beast to prey upon humans. They can be identified at a glance and defended against. A man who does the same will hide his intentions until the damage has been done.

[ jusis does make some attempt to sound as impartial and above-it-all as he usually does, but it's impossible to mask all of the—condemnation? betrayal? just plain anger? in those words. he is kind of envious of a society where humans aren't trying to destroy each other, but he realizes for julius, even warring against beasts might be hard to deal with. ]

... Still, both are horrific. My condolences.

...yeah. That sounds good. [ she is still feeling sapped of enthusiasm, but maybe a hot drink will seep into her bones and give her some much-needed energy. Ritsuka is already prepared to pay, too, as a matter of course. ]

Doesn't it bother you?

I'm not really sure. Understanding the why wasn't really a priority at the time. [When the mission is to destroy machines, why's aren't all that important.] We did meet a machine who was focused on caring for and protecting animals though. They were more like a normal machine than the other one.

[Not that a machine showing any signs of intelligence was considered normal at one point, but they spoke and didn't look like an animal, so close enough??]

[ Jusis cites an Empire, the word's significance implying a world still with people. It's not something that can be afforded in his own world. ]

There are people with malicious intent in every world, I would think. What's more important is that there be people who will fight back against them. [ Even in a ruined world, there would be manipulators. He's living proof of this fact. ] They give us hope to last and correct the harm that was done.

[ His voice is quiet but firm in its belief. ]

[ Her voice trails off when she recals Gaelio and how he's taking his disappearance. It's hard enough seeing him that way that she wouldn't bring up the subject unless it's necessary. Now that he's out of the picture they wouldn't have to deal with the complications he brought with him. He deserved credit too for the seeds of the truce they speak of now. Had he not reached out to her she might not be so willing to consider it. There's no hostility in her thoughts towards either of them. One more wary glance at Mikazuki before her gaze returns to the one he's so intent on protecting. Orga continuing to call her by that name even now catches her off guard. It's odd to her that he would want to be that familiar with her, knowing who she is, that he wouldn't walk out on his own. If she approaches this with a clear head, they could possibly find a solution together. ]

It's fine by me. We can talk about it.

That's true. It's a bit unexpected, unless they knew something beforehand.

[ Or they were extremely lucky and it was a coincidence, but with the way Ritsuka was crying earlier, maybe they hit the nail on the head a little too hard. Who knows. ]

...Do those flowers hold some sort of meaning to you?

[ She can't say she understands flower language and the like, but forget-me-nots hold a special place in her heart, she knows that much. ]

jusis is still disgruntled, but it's a nice sentiment—a true one, too, even if it sounds a couple of embellishments away from one of rean's motivational speeches. with similar resolve: ]

True enough. That so many of them happen to be in a position to cause needless bloodshed is all the more reason we must enact change. [ there's a saying about becoming the foundation of an era ... he's thinking specifically about the empire and its inhabitants, but it works just as well as a blanket statement. ]

Just what kind of world do you come from?

[ that ... is a blunt and unspecific question, but the environment that julius grew up in sounds kind of unreal. ]

[ There is something. There definitely is something, as they will find out later on in the month ]

[ The words slip out before he can stop them, resulting in a frown on his features once he realizes what exactly he has said. Now that he's already left something blatantly unsaid, he supposes that he should make up for it. Being around Okuni teaches you about the merits of being honest. ]

Decades ago, great beasts appeared and began rampaging through the land. We retreated to bases from which we could repel them and live without fear of being eaten. The military is focused on the defense of our homes, first and foremost.

[ This is a terribly watered down version but it'll do. It Will Do. ]

[Orga is interested, and he's all ears as the other man explains.

They were solid ideas. A few had some holes he could sense, though it wasn't really the fault of the plan; more of an aspect of how this city seemed to function. Integrating into society might not prove very fruitful, as they were currently limited to a fairly low level of job. People with those jobs might be under suspicion, and some even unduly, as they weren't even part of the coven.

Truth be told, the thinly-veiled idea of breaking and entering and also instigating some problems were more Orga's style, though he's unsure how useful they would be either. He just doesn't have enough information to say for sure.]

First plan's easy enough. We would all do well to keep our ears to the ground. Third, I'm not so sure about at this point. We should try to remain innocuous for as long as possible, I'd think.

But just who holds that sort of influence in this city? I've seen quite a bit of it by this point, but I don't have much of an idea of what sort of government it has.

[He doesn't expect the man to have these answers. He just thinks it's weird.]

It's probably murder on their senses of curiosity as well.

[He has to think not all of the citizenry was as paranoid as the ones whose attention they had currently attracted. The unknown was dangerous and scary, sure, but it was also thrilling, enticing. Where some might shy away, nervous, others might edge forward, intrigued.

Either way, he's going to be mindful of the distance until he has a better grasp at what's going on around here.

He shoots the man a bit of a critical, scrutinizing look. Just given his own position and the people he'd dealt with, his own personal lens tends to paint such shrugging admissions with suspicion in bright red.]

Right. [He says it with a smile, though it's a bit of a sly one.] And I just transported cargo.

[He's ... well, yeah, he's mostly lying, but it is one aspect of what he'd done.]

Doesn't really matter who or what we were, though. Not with the powers we were given. They can change a person.

[Power had certainly changed aspects about him.]

[Mika always has this sort of muted aspect about him; where some voiced themselves and their opinions loudly and almost proudly wore hearts on their sleeves, Mika had always done practically the opposite, seeming closed-off and even obtuse in the way he expressed things to most. Orga's familiar enough with him to glean the truth, though. He might not take too much pride in this, viewing it as something merely necessary and not exactly thrilling, but that's fine. Orga will take pride in it for him, then.]

Mhm. [It's not questioning; he knows that's Mika's genuine reasoning behind it. But he hopes - or perhaps he knows - that the boy will realize how it opens other doors. Maybe he'd find something he was interested behind one or two of them. Just something to pass the time until they got back home, of course...

The fingers wrapping around his wrist is a familiar, insistent pressure, one he responds to with an easy smile, a momentary connection between them as the rough pad of Mika's thumb passes over where the pulse carried through his wrist. He moves his hand, manipulating it so that it slips into Mika's threading fingers for just a moment and giving him a light squeeze.]

Yeah. You should.

[He looks at the flowers in question.] We should take some back, too. [They'd look nice in the room.

He looks back to Mika.] You got anything around here that I can help with? Might as well lend a hand, rather than distract you.

[The smile accompanying these words didn't really imply much remorse on that front, though. But if Mika finishes up work early, they could find something else to do; this city seemed to have basically everything.]

[Orga feels similarly. It's nice to find those cut from at least vaguely similar cloth.

He laughs.] Let's hope we keep ending up in places where we can keep ordering food, then. [Because if he's ever stuck in a situation where it's him, a pantry of ingredients, and a kitchen, he's royally screwed.

Retired... sounds nice. Certainly beat being in the middle of a thorny situation and feeling as though you left your entire crew high and dry back home, without your leadership to try to guide them through the storm (which you admittedly put them in the path of in the first place, but that's beside the point).

A lot of the menial jobs were, in one way, shape, or form, things he'd done before. He's not thrilled about it, but he could do them. Maybe once he's shed his curiosity for the city and found some concern for the state of his funds.]

I'd have to agree with you. A place like this, it has to have records. If they know where we live, they can pull our names from a register somewhere without much issue at all.

[If they ever got half a mind to do something about them, well. There'd be nothing stopping them.]

My bigger question is, if they reach a point where they do something about us, what would that thing be?

[ Skylark hopes he'll get there, though he isn't actually sure what he'll do with it in the future. He's a little surprised at Laphicet's request, still. ]

Oh, uhm...I guess that's fine. [ He hasn't studied with anyone since he finished school, and that was 2 years ago. ] I'm not really sure what else I should be studying, other than the stuff Teacher said I should know by heart.

[ He's almost as old as Iggy! Well, 24 is- still pretty young for a lawyer. Even the Kingsglaive is older, but, whatever, right? He's Crownsguard and he's 20! He feels a little proud about it, before he chuckles at the change of subject, giving Apollo a nod. ]

Alright- let's get moving! Just in time, too-

[ The host there motions them in, smiling and asking if he'll be joined by company- Prompto nods, draping an arm around Apollo's back. ]

Right! He's a pretty awesome attorney, you know. Wouldn't want him lawyering on an empty stomach!

[ Not that Apollo likely has a job here, but he'll talk him up for them to not deny him a seat. Fortunately, nothing of the sort comes to pass, and they're ushered to a nice table together, as Prompto sets his camera aside when they're given menus. ]

Much better!! As for my pictures- yeah, heh, been taking them since I was a kid! Just got me this new body for my camera, and now I can take lots of 'em on the road!! I've got a personal project going on right now too! Documenting the memories on the way to my best buddy's wedding! Neat, huh? We've been having a lot of fun on the way!

[ they have measures for every day monsters in zemuria, and larger monsters are usually taken down by request through bracers or military (or class vii, which is somewhere in between). the concept of being pushed out of regular cities and into bases makes sense if they were unprepared for the onslaught, but is unnerving nonetheless. if cryptids were more common than they are, maybe ... ]

... In that case, I suppose an international conflict is the least of one's worries. I imagine such an event put most power struggles to rest.

I don't. We never owned one, and the city I come from doesn't have a population of them.

Does what ever bother me? -No, despite the child-like tone, something, for the first time, felt very insincere about Jack-O's words. She definitely knew what Ritsuka was asking about.-

[He rolls with it, because of course he does.] Mirrors, then - but mirrors only show a surface, despite the superstitions some have about them, don't they? Just a reflection of light.

I mean, I suppose you could break the mirrors into smaller pieces if you wanted to do anything useful.

[Truth be told, he hits on everyone with a dirty soul.]

[Valerius is considerate enough this time to keep his voice quiet, and check for anyone that might be looking over. No one. Good.

He nods along]

It’s true, but if I still have a certain power of my old self, then my mirrors can show much more than merely outer appearances. [His other hand taps against the table. Valerius always prefers to show, not tell, but now was not a good time]

They also reflect the sins, or negativity within a target's soul--showing them as a series of crystals sprouting from their flesh, usually…[He gives Qilby a pointed look as a memory prods at the back of his mind, then he adds with a light wave of his hand.]

But sometimes, there’s the occasional anomaly. To be honest, I’ve never tested it on someone not of my world.

I...haven’t the faintest idea of what line of work you’re in but if I fail to find something else, I’ll remember to do so.

[Well, that might solve his joblessness problem for at least a little bit! He’s a bulky guy, and despite being basically a mage he can lift fairly well.

He’s content to follow her at any rate.]
