[This is territory he knows. It’s been weeks since he could just talk shop.]

On Earth we use liquid fuel rockets to propell a spacecraft past the atomosphere. That part of the ship breaks away at the right height and burns up while the secondary and then third phase components do their work.

[He mentally projects memories of watching ships go up and his own checks before lift off.]

But the rest of the universe is using fuel and techniques to leave the ground that we wouldn’t have thought possible. At least not for quite some time.
